Tribal People Try
About

The official home of Tribal People Try

Tribal People Try started as a simple idea: film what happens when families from a village in rural Punjab, Pakistan taste food from the rest of the world for the first time. No script, no actors, no second takes. Over a thousand videos and several hundred million views later, the reactions are still the whole point.

This site does three things the YouTube channel can’t:

  • Find any video by dish. Type “pasta” and you get every pasta video, not every video with a pasta thumbnail. Captions are searchable too, so you can find a moment by what was said.
  • Cook what they tried. Recipes from our two cookbooks — the Tribal Cookbook and the Ramadan Cookbook — plus hundreds of everyday Western and international dishes, all with quantities you can scale and steps you can follow on a phone in the kitchen.
  • Plan the week. Members tell the planner who they cook for and how much time they have; it builds a week, writes one shopping list, and sends a reminder before dinner. Swap anything you don’t fancy.

Who makes this

The same small team that makes the channel, working with the families you see on screen. Everyone who appears in a video is compensated and takes part because they enjoy it.

A note on the recipes

Our cookbook recipes come from the village kitchens you see in the cooking videos. The wider recipe library is written and tested by us, with imported recipes rewritten in our own words and checked for halal alternatives where the original used pork or alcohol.
