Villager Eats Ice Cream for the First Time Post-Accident
About this video
Ice cream, tried for the first time by villagers from rural Punjab, Pakistan. Nobody tells them what to say. Some like it, some don't, and in the Tribal People Try way they explain exactly why.
What is ice cream?
Ice cream in its western forms: tubs of Ben & Jerry's, Magnum bars, soft serve, sundaes, and flavours like mint chocolate chip and cookie dough that do not exist in Pakistani ice-cream parlours.
What to watch for
Cold and sweet is easy. The flavours are the interest — mint with chocolate is often called toothpaste, and bubblegum or cookie dough need explaining. Chunks in ice cream, rather than smooth kulfi, are new.
The comparison they always make
Kulfi is the village ice cream: dense, milky, cardamom and pistachio, frozen in a mould. Against it, western ice cream is lighter, airier and sweeter.
