Tribal People Try Candy

Every time the tribe has tasted candy: 16 videos of first impressions from villagers in rural Punjab, Pakistan, usually International food they have never seen before.

Also covers: candies, sweets, gummy, gummies, lollipop, sour candy, warheads, jelly beans, skittles, haribo, cotton candy, marshmallow

What it is

Candy means American and British sweets: Skittles, Sour Patch Kids, Warheads, Jolly Ranchers, Haribo gummies, Twizzlers, Reese's, M&M's, and the sour and 'extreme' sweets built for reaction videos.

What to watch for

Sour candy is the reliable reaction: Warheads and Sour Patch Kids pull the face every time. Gummy textures are unfamiliar and get chewed thoughtfully. Peanut butter cups divide the table down the middle.

The village comparison

Village sweets are boiled sugar and jaggery — gur, til ke laddoo, sugar-coated fennel after meals. Fruit-flavoured, brightly coloured candy is a shop treat for children, so adults tasting it is part of the fun.
