What it is

European food outside Italy and Britain: French cheese and pastries, German sausages and pretzels, Spanish paella and tapas, Greek gyros and feta, Swiss fondue, Scandinavian fish. Dairy-heavy, pork-heavy in places, and mostly mild.

What to watch for

Anything with melted cheese passes; anything fermented or cured — aged cheese, pickled herring, surströmming — does not. Paella is judged as a plain pulao; gyros as a kebab with yogurt sauce, which is high praise.

The village comparison

The tribe eat halal, so pork dishes are swapped for beef or chicken versions in the videos. Cured, cold, or sour foods have no village precedent and get the most cautious reactions.
