Tribal People Try Cereal

Every time the tribe has tasted cereal: 5 videos of first impressions from villagers in rural Punjab, Pakistan, usually American food they have never seen before.

Also covers: cereals, corn flakes, froot loops, lucky charms, cheerios, oatmeal, granola

What it is

Breakfast cereal is processed grain — flakes, puffs, loops — eaten cold with milk. Lucky Charms, Froot Loops and Cinnamon Toast Crunch are the sugary American ones; cornflakes and oats are the plain end.

What to watch for

Cold milk poured over crunchy sugar first thing in the morning is the strangest breakfast idea the videos have introduced. The colours of Froot Loops get a laugh; the taste is judged as candy, not food.

The village comparison

Breakfast in the village is paratha, eggs, lassi or tea. Milk is drunk warm. Cereal is understood as something for children, and a treat at that.
